Abstract

The Algerian Revolution received unparalleled attention from both the popular and official circles in Iraq. As the revolution in Algeria grew stronger and more determined to expel the French colonial occupation, Iraqi public opinion increasingly sought to express the deep bonds of brotherhood and the shared destiny linking the two peoples. Various sectors of Iraqi civil society mobilized their resources and efforts to support the Algerian people, who had endured the hardships of French colonial rule for many decades. Consequently, the Algerian Revolution quickly became one of the foremost concerns of Iraqi public opinion, particularly because its outbreak coincided with the height of Arab nationalist fervor, which advocated liberation from foreign domination and the revival of a unified Arab nation.
